Weather Watch Group meeting held on  Heavy rains forecast in North Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch areas starting August 15-16. The meteorological department has said that the rains that started this week are likely to fall next week as well.  In addition, the next date.  Heavy rains are also forecast in Saurashtra-Kutch areas including North Gujarat on August 15 and 16.  A meeting of the Weather Watch was started by Ms. T.  Relief Commissioner Shri Harshad Patel told the officers present in the virtual meeting that this morning from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm in 8 talukas 1 mm to 3 mm of rain has been recorded.  The highest rainfall of 5 mm has been recorded in Kalyanpur taluka.  The state has received 31.5 mm of rainfall till 11/09/2030.  Which is 7.5% as compared to the state average of 31 mm for the last thirty years.

"Low pressure is building in the northern part of the Bay of Bengal in two days," an IMD official said.  In addition, a cyclonic circulation is on the Pakistan-Kutch-Rajasthan area and in the coming week, besides South Gujarat, there may be light to very heavy rains in Central and North Gujarat as well as Saurashtra and Kutch.  The rains that started this week are likely to extend into next week.  Heavy rains are likely in North Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch areas around August 14 and 15.  It was stated by the agriculture department that an estimated 3.02 lakh hectares of kharif crops have been planted till 10/08/2030 this year.  During the same period last year, 21.5 lakh hectares were planted.  This year, 51.50% of the area has been planted against the average area under the last three years.  According to the Irrigation Department, the Sardar Sarovar reservoir has an existing surface of 114.5 meters and a storage of 1,31,008 mcft of water.  Which is 31.12% of the total storage capacity.  As well as 2.50 cusecs of water has been received.  The total storage in 203 reservoirs of the state is 4.5%.  At present, there are 4 reservoirs on high alert, 11 reservoirs on alert and 3 reservoirs on warning.  According to the Fisheries Department, fishermen are banned from plowing the seas from today till August 15.  Mr. Patel said that next week, Ta.  NDRF teams have been on stand-by following the forecast of heavy rains from August 15 to August 15.  These teams will also be sent to North Gujarat if required.  Saurashtra - Kutch and South Gujarat NDRF team will be retained.  Following the forecast of heavy rains, all the departments have been instructed to be vigilant and prepare in advance.
